Lashkar-e-toiba operative Abdul Karim Tunda has reportedly told interrogators that he was in regular contact with Pakistan’s former ISI chief Hamid Gul. Tunda is reported to have first met Gul in Lahore in 1995.

Besides Gul,Tunda was also

reportedly in contact with other ISI officials who are suspected to have facilitated his Fake Indian Currency Notes racket in India. Police claimed to have recovered about 150 numbers from his cellphone, including numbers in Kenya,Pakistan and Saudi Arabia.

Tunda has reportedly told officials that several agencies, including the LeT,planned to strike the capital during the Commonwealth Games. There were several meetings held by various members of Babbar Khalsa International and Indian Mujahideen, and both the organisations contacted him separately, said officials.

Police sources said Tunda went by the code name ‘Baba’ and was very close to Hafiz Saeed. Tunda also reportedly met underworld don Dawood Ibrahim several times. It was Tunda who introduced Hafiz Saeed to Dawood, said officials. Tunda is also alleged to have ties with the al Qaeda.

According to these sources,Tunda also had close ties with the Babbar Khalsa International through its leader Wadhawa Singh, who reportedly roped him in for an attack on three Punjab ministers.

Tunda is reported to have made several trips to Nepal,Bangladesh,Saudi Arabia and West Asian countries to indoctrinate youth. He has reportedly said that the youth being trained by the LeT were paid Rs 4,000 per month.

Tunda reportedly worked as a peon with a State Bank of India branch in Rana Pratap Bagh,Delhi. He later went to Ahmedabad and started a garments business. In 1985,he went to Tonk,Rajasthan, where he is reported to have learnt to make the ‘pipe bomb’.

Police sources said Tunda trained his third son,Abdul Waris, and sent him to Jammu and Kashmir to carry out a blast. Waris was subsequently arrested and sentenced to eight years in jail, after which he was released on bail. He is suspected to be living in Pakistan.

Officials said Tunda’s role in the 1997 blast outside the Delhi Police Headquarter has surfaced during his interrogation. Sources said Tunda is also wanted in a 1993 blast case in Jaipur.
