The story of triple killing in Gadchiroli on June 12,as narrated by an arrested Naxal, has not only confirmed the internal rift in the leadership over the issue but also revealed a new approach of deceit.

SP Suvez Haq said,“We recently arrested Shivaji alias Chaitu Pada from Lendar village in Etapalli. He told us that a four-member team led by Naxal leader Aitu was responsible for the killings of Lloyd Steel vice president,Jaspal Singh Dhillon,Hemlata Minerals proprietor,Mallikarjun Reddy, and Surajgarh police official,Raju Sadmek. The three had brought two bags which were confiscated by the Naxals first before killing them. Pada said that the three could have been let off after giving a warning to desist from mining in the area.”

“Pada said Aitu had already decided to kill the three after calling them to the forest with the bags. One bag had two books but Pada says he does not know what was in the other. There are rumours that the other bag had a suitcase containing one crore rupees, but Pada does not know,” Haq said.

The ransom theory gets credence from Pada’s revelation that there was no plan to kill Sadmek originally.

“Sadmek was probably killed since he knew of the money. The naxals did not want word to get out that the three were killed even after money was paid,” Haq said.

The three others in the killer squad, besides Pada — who is from the instructors’ tea12m (I-team) that trains cadres about technicalities of weaponry — were Gatta dalam commander Goglu,Kasansur dalam commander Mahesh and I-team commander Sannu.
