The bonhomie between the SP and the Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) seems to be over. Rakesh Tikait,BKU general secretary and son of late Mahendra Singh Tikait, failed to get an audience with Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on Monday.

Rakesh had come to invite Akhilesh for unveiling the statue of his father at Sisauli village in Muzaffarnagar on October 6. Rakesh even met SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav, urging him to arrange an appointment with the CM,but failed to get any commitment.” “During the last meeting with the CM on August 21,we had discussed about the statue unveiling function. Akhilesh himself had given assurance of his participation. If the state’s CM cannot keep his words, then I have nothing to say. With the date fast approaching,I am yet to get a confirmation from the CM’s office,” Rakesh said.

He said Mulayam had asked him to contact the CM’s office for an appointment but he could not get through. Sources in SP stated the party wants to maintain a distance from Tikait due to his political ambitions.
