JD-U leader drags Lalu to court for taunt

Bihar JD-U spokesperson Sanjay Singh has gone to court against RJD chief Lalu Prasad after the latter made an “unparliamentary” remark about him during the RJD’s Parivartan Rally this week. Singh, who has filed a defamation complaint against Lalu at a Patna court, had been with the LJP and crossed over to the JD-U about two years ago; Lalu derided him for switching loyalties and “being too obedient to his new master”. The JD-U leader said he consulted his legal advisors before filing the complaint against the RJD chief; he has been exploring if a criminal case too can be filed. RJD spokesperson Randhir Yadav said Singh is blowing up the matter for the sake of publicity.

Nitish back on yatra

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has resumed his Sewa Yatra, seeking to counter his arch-rival Lalu Prasad and his son Tejaswi Prasad Yadav whose Parivartan Rally has been drawing huge crowds. On his yatra,Nitish reviews the progress of government schemes in each district and interacts with the people. Having covered Darbhanga, the CM will now travel to Lakhisarai and Munger. The JD-U’s Munger MP Rajiv Ranjan Singh,or Lalan Singh, who had fallen out with Nitish three years ago and was suspended from the party,is likely to share the dais with the CM at Lakhisarai and Munger. Nitish has been trying to woo back disgruntled leaders in his party and Lalan Singh’s suspension could be revoked soon, sources said.

Congress entry can be JD-U gain

It was expected to be a straight fight between the RJD’s Prabhunath Singh and the JD-U’s Prashant Kumar Shahi, the Bihar HRD minister,in the Maharajganj Lok Sabha bypoll. But the Congress has sprung a last-moment surprise by deciding to field Jitendra Swamy, son of late RJD MP Umashankar Singh. Some are looking at it as a Congress ploy to woo Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. Maharajganj is dominated by Rajputs and Yadavs, and Swamy’s candidature is likely to divide the Rajput vote, which will work to the JD-U’s advantage. The RJD’s Prabhunath Singh,a former MP from there,is a Rajput and can no longer be assured of the combined vote of the two communities. Nitish’s candidate is a Bhumihar.

Pranksters on Facebook

Shivdeep W Lande, the governor’s aide-de-camp,has lodged an FIR with the cyber cell of the Patna police about a fake account in his name on Facebook. Those operating the account have even discussed marriage proposals on his behalf and given the IPS officer’s “consent”. Lande, who was recently shifted from the post of Araria SP to work with Governor D Y Patil, said he has not opened any account on any networking site, nor does he have any email ID other than his official one. The IPS officer said he has lodged his complaint with the Patna senior superintendent of police and is looking forward to action against the pranksters.
