Vizag steel plant blast death toll rises to 15
VISAKHAPATNAM: The death toll in Wednesdays explosion at the Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL) steel plant rose to 15 with three more employees succumbing to burn injuries,sources said on Saturday. The deceased include Assistant General Manager L Srinivas,Chargeman P Narayana Rao and Foreman M B Muralidhara Raju.
3 tourists killed on Rohtang Pass visit
MANALI: Three tourists from Khandwa in Madhya Pradesh,including a child,were killed and six injured on Saturday while visiting Rohtang Pass. The accident took place when the driver lost control of the vehicle,which fell 200 ft into a gorge near Mari,12 km from the pass,the police said.
Court extends custody of Verma
NEW DELHI: A Delhi court on Saturday extended the custody of arms dealer Abhishek Verma and his Romanian wife Ancia Neascu till June 21. The two were arrested last week for allegedly receiving money from a Swiss arms firm to keep its name out of Indian governments blacklist. Verma and Neascu were produced before Special CBI Judge Talwant Singh.
Man sends bribe by demand draft
VIRUDHUNAGAR: Palanisamy,an auditor from Virudhunagar,sent a demand draft of Rs100 as bribe to the municipality for the delay caused in getting his sons birth certificate. Stunned by his action,the municipality made amends for the lapse by delivering the birth certificate to his house on Friday.
