As more and more 3D films start releasing in India,Gurgaon goes a step ahead with a 5D movie hall.

Watching a movie at Aura Magic 5D is experiencing what Dorothy must have gone through in The Wizard of Oz,when her house in Kansas was caught up in storm and whirled across to Munchkinland. Because a five-dimensional experience amidst all the shaking, trembling and gushing wind is sure to transport anyone to an unknown space.

Once we reached Gurgaon’s Metropolis mall,we followed the floor stickers to reach “Aura Magic 5D”,and reached in front of a small movie hall. There were several movies running that day: Prehistoric Adventure,Forest Adventure,Polar Roller Coaster and Strange Stories. We chose Forest Adventure — described as “thrilling and scary” on the pamphlet.

Opened over a month ago,Aura Magic 5D has movies changing every week so as to give more options to the viewers. With fairly large and comfortable seats (sofas, really),the hall can admit 24 at a time. Technically speaking,5D means three-dimensional visuals combined with physical effects with an aim to offer a “close to reality” movie-watching experience. So,unlike in a “normal” movie hall, instead of cup holders, these seats here have handles and seat belts. We were given 3D glasses and as we strapped ourselves to the seat, the movie began.

Firstly,we were a little disappointed to see the quality of the animation. We expected something like Shrek or Star Wars but that wasn’t the case. Plus,it had no story line, although that doesn’t hinder the experience as such. After all, with all the shaking and jolting through the wild forest, complete with “creepy crawlies” coming from under the seats, one wouldn’t have had time to pay any attention to story — of all the things. The experience is quite close to reality, literally. When it rained in the forest or a zombie sneezed,it sprayed on us. And when we were passing through bitter cold, there was wind in the theatre, and snowflakes actually melted on our clothes.

After the 15-minute movie was over,we decided to watch another one,Polar Roller Coaster — a roller-coaster ride through impossible landscapes such as a desert or the Grand Canyon. It was of a better visual quality but the tossing and tumbling made us motion sick.

Basically,if you are looking at a day out with your little cousins, take them to Aura 5D. It may not have much to hold the attention of the adults, but for children,it’s a “giggles-guaranteed” experience.

Cost: Rs 180 per person per movie
