Tejinder Singh, who has filed a defamation case against former Army chief Gen V K Singh and four senior officers, has moved the Delhi High Court against a magistrate’s order to grant permanent exemption from court appearance to the serving officers.

Vice-Chief of Army S K Singh; DG,Military Intelligence Lt Gen B S Thakur; Major Gen S L Narshiman and Col Hitten Sawhney were given exemption by magistrate Jay Thareja earlier this month.

Tejinder said the accused could not be granted exemption merely because they are public servants. The high court has accepted the petition and issued notice to the four Army officers to reply to the petition. The court will now hear the matter on February 15. The former Army chief had also filed for permanent exemption from appearance, the order for which is likely to be heard in the November hearing.
