A 15-year-old school student in Bhosari,Shubham Shirke, was allegedly kidnapped for a ransom of Rs 50,000 and subsequently murdered on Saturday by two minor school dropouts, one of whom was Shubham’s classmate till class VIII,and their accomplice. The police nabbed the three accused on Sunday. Shubham’s body was recovered from a secluded place.

The police said that at around 2 pm on Saturday,Shubham,a class X student, got a call on his cellphone from one of his friends asking him to meet them. Senior inspector Motichand Rathod said,“Shubham left the house informing his family that he was going out to play. At 5 pm Shubham’s father,Mahadev, got a call saying that his son had been kidnapped. The kidnappers asked him to pay Rs 50,000 or they would kill Shubham.”

Mahadev, along with his friends went to Bhosari where the abductors had asked him to come with the money. “He could arrange for Rs 15,000 only and told them that he would give the rest in a day or two. There he got a call asking him to keep the money on the footpath in front of a hotel. A motorcycle-borne person, whose face was covered, picked up the bag around 10 pm. The kidnappers told him that Shubham would come back in some time.” Rathod said.

One of Mahadev’s friends managed to note down the number of the bike. Rathod said. As Shubham did not return in the next one and a half hours, his family approached the police.

“We started an inquiry based on the number of the bike and the number of public booths, from where the calls were made. We got to know these boys were from Aptenagar,” Rathod said. In the early hours of Sunday they nabbed two minors, both aged 16,one of whom was earlier Shubham’s classmate. The other is a Class V dropout. Their accomplice,Amit Ram Chandra Nayar (19),has appeared for his HSC exam.

Rathod said,“In the morning we found Shubham’s body near a bridge. He had been strangulated with a belt and there was a deep wound made by a sharp weapon on his neck. Prima facie it seems they were scared that Shubham would reveal their identity and so,killed him. They told us that they kidnapped Shubham because they wanted easy money.”
