The five suspects in the Shakti Mills gangrape case were taken Wednesday to the spot for the reconstruction of the incident. In the three-hour-long exercise, they were made to retrace every step — from the moment they saw the victim and her friend enter the compound to the time that they finally let them go.

The five — Vijay Jadhav,Qasim Sheikh,Salim Ansari,Siraj Khan and a minor — were arrested in a span of four days in a joint crackdown by the local police and the Crime Branch. The case was later officially handed over to the Crime Branch.

“We started from the spot where Jadhav and Ansari were playing cards when the victim and her friend entered the compound. We recreated the entire sequence of events, starting with the victim asking the accused for directions, the duo keeping a watch on them while they did their work, all the five arriving at the scene of the crime one after the other, and finally the actual offence,” said a Crime Branch officer.

A woman constable posed as the victim while her male colleague posed as her friend.

“There were a few minor contradictions in our initial investigation, which were ironed out during Wednesday’s event recreation,” said the officer.

The Crime Branch will be subjecting the first arrested accused, whose age is still disputed,to bone ossification tests at JJ Department of Forensic Science Thursday.
