Shivraj Singh Chouhan was Friday elected BJP legislature party leader with Leader of Opposition Sushma Swaraj putting his and Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singhs recent victories on a par with the electoral performance of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi.
When the BJPs first hat-trick in state elections (Gujarat) was being hailed I had said there are two more states in line and Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Raman Singh eventually delivered, the Leader of Opposition said without naming Modi.
She ranked the victory in Madhya Pradesh ahead of the partys showing in Rajasthan. There was an aspect of negativity (anger against the Ashok Gehlot government) and some positivity (the previous government of Vasundhara Raje) unlike MP where the BJP has been continuously in power and added 22 seats to its 2008 tally, said the Lok Sabha MP from Vidisha.
Asking the newly-elected MLAs to prepare for the Lok Sabha elections, she said the code of conduct could be in place by March. She said expectation from MP had gone up and asked the legislators to win all 29 seats for the BJP without naming the partys prime ministerial candidate.
Referring to a previous comment whether Chouhan had found a magic wand,Swaraj said she was not surprised by Chouhans victory because it was an outcome of track record of development over 10 years based on sensitivity, humility and vision. She said he ruled like a servant, not ruler.
Chouhan, who will be sworn on Saturday in presence of top leadership, including Modi, attributed the victory to the partys ideology and recalled his humble beginnings. I had never imagined I would become CM one day and was content with being an MLA in 1990 and was reluctant when I was asked to contest the Lok Sabha elections for the first time.
He said humility should be the byword and warned legislators against arrogance which he said could bring about their downfall.
