A woman recently approached the Punjab and Haryana High Court demanding the custody of a two-and-half-year old boy. She claimed that she and her husband were the biological parents of the child who was abducted by her close relatives. However, her husband later submitted that he was not the child’s father. The biological father of the child on Monday told the HC that the woman, his close relative, had rented her womb after entering into a ‘surrogacy’ agreement.

The father, who hails from Amritsar, submitted that the woman is a surrogate mother who was approached as his wife was unable to conceive. Describing it a unique case, the HC on Monday asked the woman to file her response.

According to the woman, she gave birth to a boy in April 2010,and her relatives, who live nearby, often used to take her son to their house. Few months ago,she said, the couple took away the child and never returned, compelling her to approach the HC.
