Four cities have accounted for nearly a third of the total students who qualified in the Joint Entrance Examination-Advanced of the IITs this year. A preliminary analysis by IIT Delhi reveals that 6,878 students of the 20,834 candidates who qualified in the test belong to Jaipur,Delhi,Hyderabad and Vijayawada.
While 1,26,749 students had registered for JEE-Advanced this year,20,834 cleared the exam. While maximum number of students had registered from Delhi,Jaipur tops the list of cities with maximum qualified candidates, followed by Delhi and Hyderabad, said Dr H C Gupta, organising chairman of JEE-Advanced from IIT Delhi. If Patna,Mumbai,Indore,Vishakapatnam,Pune and Bhopal are included these cities would provide half the number of students IITs require.
