Stars on way to Himachal,campaign heats up

As the campaign for the November 4 election heats up,top leaders of both the Congress and the BJP are on their way to Himachal Pradesh,as are some Bollywood stars to throw in a bit of spice and glamour.

As the campaign for the November 4 election heats up,top leaders of both the Congress and the BJP are on their way to Himachal Pradesh,as are some Bollywood stars to throw in a bit of spice and glamour.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is scheduled to campaign in Keylong and Solan on October 25 — his mother Sonia Gandhi addressed a rally in Mandi on Monday — and he will be followed by party heavyweights Motilal Vora,Digvijaya Singh,Capt Amarinder Singh,Jyotiraditya Scindia,Raj Babbar and Sanjay Nirupam.

Not to be outshone,the BJP,out to retain power,too has drawn up a list of star campaigners: Nitin Gadkari,L K Advani,Narendra Modi,Rajnath Singh,Uma Bharti,Sushma Swaraj,Varun Gandhi,Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi,and actresses Smriti Irani and Kiran Kher.

The NCP,which is contesting polls in Himachal for the first time,has also lined up top leaders for campaigning — Sharad Pawar,Govendrao Adik,Bholabhai Patel .

The CPM will make its pitch with,among others,Sitaram Yechury,Brinda Karat and Subhashini Ali.

The star campaigners though would have to be watchful.“They can talk only about party and policies. Travel and other expenditures incurred by them are excluded from the candidate’s expenditure,” said a senior election department official.
