The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is all set to file an FIR into the Srinagar defence land scam alleged to be worth Rs 200 crore.

The agency, which regis-tered a preliminary enquiry in November last year, has found during the probe that out of 70 no objection certificates (NOCs) issued by Defence Estate Officer,13 were unauthorised issued and contained anomalies. The CBI is in the process of identifying the real beneficiaries of the land in these instances.

The scam surfaced in August last year when the BJP alleged grabbing of defence land worth crores near the sensitive Srinagar airport by two land mafias. The matter was then referred to the CBI for investigation.

While examining the NOCs,the CBI found that 55 were issued as per the norms while there were discrepancies in 15. “The probe further established the names of two beneficiaries of this land who have got it transferred into their names. However,13 persons are still unidentified. We are going to file an FIR into the matter to ascertain the real beneficiaries. It is also possible that some anti-national parties might be behind this land grab,” said a top CBI officer handling the probe.

CBI sources also claimed that they found alleged collusion between officials of the Directorate General of Defence Estates in Srinagar and officials of the local administration who helped them in getting the NOCs. Some of these officials will be named in the FIR.

In the past three months, the CBI also collected prima facie evidence to suggest that the defence land was allotted to private parties and NOCs were given, violating norms. However,it said not all the NOCs were illegal.
