In an apparent attempt to mount pressure on the Congress-led UPA government to restrain it from pushing the Lokpal Bill in Rajya Sabha,Mulayam Singh Yadav-led Samajwadi Party Friday said it was in support of the no-confidence motion moved by anti-Telangana MPs in Lok Sabha.
We are against creation of smaller states. We are with the no-confidence motion, SP chief whip in Lok Sabha Shailendra Kumar told The Indian Express in response to query regarding partys position on no-confidence motion being moved by anti-Telangana members.
Kumar, however, evaded reply on whether party MPs will lend their support at the time of admission of the motion or after the motion is admitted. This will be decided on Monday, Kumar said.
SP members, however, came in the way of Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumars attempts at taking up the motion for consideration Friday despite requests from YSR Congress leader Jaganmohan Reddy. SP members disrupted the proceedings by trooping into the Well of the House demanding inclusion of 17 OBC castes in UP into the SC category while Speaker appealed for order to take up no-confidence motion for consideration. The SP members protests forced the Chair to adjourn the House for the day without taking the motion into consideration. The motion will now be put up for consideration on Monday.
While Jaganmohan Reddy had met SP chief earlier where Mulayam had reiterated his partys opposition to the birfurcation of Andhra Pradesh,SP members in Lok Sabha did not appear supporting the no-confidence motion.
However,SP came out declaring its support to the anti-Telangana members sponsored no-confidence motion after the government agreed to the BJP demand to bring the Lokpal Bill in the current session. SP members in Rajya Sabha held up Lokpal Bill ostensibly demanding discussion on price rise.
