The protest by the students of Sonepats all-women Bhagat Phool Singh Womans University in Khanpur village demanding the suspension Vice-Chancellor Pankaj Mittal continued on Sunday.
The students have been on a protest for three days now after a first-year law student alleged that she was abducted near the university campus by four youth and gangraped. Three of the four accused, including the in-charge of the hostel mess where he girl resides, have been arrested.
Meanwhile,in support of the students,INLD youth wing Indian National Students Organisation also blocked the Khanpur-Sonepat Road for about two hours and raised slogans against the Bhupinder Singh Hooda-led Congress government. INLD leader Ajay Chautala participated in the protest.
The protest threw traffic out of gear in the highway. Following this, the police assured the protesting students and INLD workers that action will be taken against all those found responsible for the incident.
The students, who are sitting on a protest outside the university campus, are alleging that the accused enjoyed the patronage of certain university officials and that the vice-chancellor had adopted a lax approach while dealing with the entire issue.
