Militants hiding in Palmar forests near Kishtwar killed a soldier late on Wednesday night when a joint team of the J-K Police and security forces was carrying out a combing operation to flush out Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) men, including three wanted in the September 2011 bomb blast outside Delhi High Court, operating in the area.

Identifying the deceased soldier as Noor Mohammad of 159 Territorial Army,a senior police officer said he was part of a patrol party that was combing the forest area when the militants suddenly opened fire around 11 pm. The security forces retaliated, but the militants fled taking advantage of darkness and dense forests.

This is the second casualty suffered by security forces during the last three days after the team launched combing operations to flush out Hizbul Mujahideen militants operating in the area.
