The Kerala government Tuesday announced a judicial probe into the solar panel scam prompting CPM-led LDF opposition to call off its ‘indefinite siege to the Secretariat”. CM Oommen Chandy also survived the two-month political storm as the LDF had called for his resignation.

Thousands of LDF activists converged at the Secretariat, since Sunday night, seeking Chandy’s resignation and a judicial probe into the solar panel scam. About 4,500 state police/ paramilitary personnel were deployed.

After meeting the leaders of ally Congress,Chandy Tuesday declared the government would opt for a judicial probe led by a sitting judge of HC. Two hours later,CPM state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan announced the LDF was withdrawing its blockade, but would continue to boycott the CM.

A CPM central committee member said the government decision was the ideal occasion to end the agitation. “If we continued the agitation, people would have turned against the Left. So,we decided to settle for the judicial probe and abandon demand for Chandy’s resignation,’’ the leader said.
