Alleging that the report of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) on the Gulberg Society carnage was “flawed” and seeks to “cover up” the “heinous role” played by Gujarat CM Narendra Modi,CPM on Friday demanded a fresh investigation into the “role and actions” of Modi to ensure that accountability is fixed.

The CPM questioned the SIT’s logic behind concluding that Modi’s alleged remarks about allowing Hindus to vent their anger does not constitute an offence because it was said “within the four walls of a room”. The SIT investigation and report has been “vitiated by the lack of application of mind and inability to comprehend the premeditated actions of the executive in Gujarat,” it said.
