A sub-inspector,who committed suicide on Saturday at Baguiati on the northern outskirts of the city, has held the Deputy Commissioner of South Division of Kolkata Police — D P Singh — responsible for his death.

Kartik Chatterjee, posted at the Park Street Police Station, was found hanging from the ceiling of the bathroom of his Vidya Pally residence on Saturday morning by his family. Two suicide notes have reportedly been recovered from his residence. In one suicide note addressed to his wife,Ruma,Chatterjee is learnt to have stated that he was abused and humiliated by the Deputy Commissioner and hence he was killing himself.

Chatterjee had joined the Park Street police station in February 2012 after he was transferred from the Chetla police station in South Kolkata.

When contacted,D P Singh said,“I have no clue why he has taken my name. After he was transferred from Chetla to Park Street,he was asked several times by Chetla police station and the assistant commissioner of the area to send case diaries of 19 pending cases he was investigating…he did not send them despite reminders…I called him twice but he did not turn up. I called him again in July but he appeared on August 3. I asked him to send all case diaries of the pending cases in 20 days as their investigation was stalled. However,I never abused and insulted him,” he said.

The sub-inspector was asked to appear before the DC,South, again on August 22,but he did not turn up.

Rajiv Kumar ,CP,Bidhannagar commissionerate said: “We have started a probe into the case.”
