There was chaos at the CJM court in Mahamaya Nagar district on Saturday noon when assailants shot dead two undertrials as they were coming out after a hearing. The policemen escorting the accused retaliated and killed three of the assailants.

The undertrials,Kamlesh Kumar and Satyavir Singh,had been arrested in a case of abduction,loot and murder on January 11.

Mahamaya Nagar SP Jitendra Pratap Singh said the motive behind the attack would come to light only after the assailants were identified. The SP said: “The two undertrials were walking out of the court after proceedings when three youths suddenly appeared and opened fire with country-made pistols. Kamlesh and Satyavir sustained bullet injuries on their heads and died on the spot.”

Sub-inspector TA Rizvi and constables Mahavir Singh and Banwarilal Sharma started chasing the assailants along with some lawyers,the SP said,adding that after an exchange of fire,the cops succeeded in killing one of the criminals and critically injuring two others.

The injured were rushed to the hospital,where they succumbed to injuries. The police recovered three .315-bore country-made pistols from the possession of the dead criminals.

The SP said Kamlesh and Satyavir had abducted a truck driver and taken the loaded vehicle to Farrukhabad in August 2008. They had killed the driver and disposed off the looted goods.

A case of abduction,robbery and murder was registered at the Sikandararau police station of Mahamaya Nagar and the duo arrested in January.

The police also booked the two under the Gangsters Act,Singh said.
