Announcing a campaign against Congress president Sonia Gandhi and vice-president Rahul Gandhi in Rae Bareli and Amethi, respectively,Shia cleric Kalbe Jawwad Naqvi Thursday said he could support the AAP in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
Jawwad is at present Imam-e-Juma at the historic Asafi mosque in Lucknow and also a member of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board. Earlier, during the Delhi Assembly elections,AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal had met Barelvi cleric Tauqeer Raza and got his backing.
Both Amethi and Rae Bareli have pockets of Shia population, including Jais and Nasirabad, where Jawwad reportedly has influence.
We have started touring Amethi and Rae Bareli and our meetings attracted good crowds. We highlighted the misdeeds of the Congress. We will support non-Congress and non-BJP candidates and AAP is a strong choice, Jawwad said on Thursday. He ruled out supporting the SP and the BSP.
AAP can emerge as third option: Anna
pune: Social activist Anna Hazare Thursday said he was happy with the way the AAP government was functioning in Delhi. Kejriwal has a clean record and a will to do something good for the country. From the way he is governing Delhi,it is possible that AAP emerges as a third option for the voters, Hazare said. He said he was sure the Kejriwal government would soon take steps to set up a strong Lokayukta in Delhi by passing a Bill. ENS
