JD(U) chief Sharad Yadav and RLD chief Ajit Singh on Thursday pledged their support to yoga guru Ramdev’s demand that black money stashed abroad should be brought back.

Yadav had at one point shared the Lokpal stage, but in the wake of Anna Hazare’s Ramlila fast in August last year, had been one of the most bitter critics of the Lokpal movement in Parliament. Describing Ramdev’s cause as one “in the interest of the nation”,Yadav said that to take a call on whether and to what extent JD(U) would support his cause would be decided in a party meeting.

“This government brought a white paper on black money that is all white and while other countries are actively getting back their black money, our government is scared to even give out names. It is a deep rooted malaise and in a democratic setup,Ramdev’s initiative to build public opinion is the only effective way out,” he said.

Earlier in the day,Ajit Singh said that black money often plays a deciding role in elections. “In the last Lok Sabha polls, the Election Commission tried hard to stop the use of black money and it tried again during recent state assembly elections. But the EC has not achieved complete success in this. On the contrary it is on the rise,” he said.

Ramdev met both leaders at their respective residences.

Asked about his request for an appointment with Sonia Gandhi,Ramdev said,“I am waiting for a response and I assure you that if she does meet me I will talk about all scams from Bofors to coalgate.”
