Sensex firms up on sustained buying,up 76 points

NSE 50-share index,Nifty,also gained by 20.35 points,or 0.33 per cent,to 6,103.50 at 1030 hours.

Sustained buying by funds and short-covering in key counters continue to propel the BSE Sensex up by 76 points in late morning trade. Buying was seen mainly in PSU,refineries,Power,Metal and Capital Goods counters.

The BSE 30-share barometer resumed higher at 20,056.28 and moved between 20,139.28 and 20,038.56 before quoting 20,106.84 points at 1030 hours. It showed a gain of 76.07 points,or 0.38 per cent,from its last close.

The NSE 50-share index,Nifty,also gained by 20.35 points,or 0.33 per cent,to 6,103.50 at 1030 hours. Meanwhile,foreign institutional investors (FIIs) bought shares worth a net Rs 406.03 crore yesterday,as per provisional data from the stock exchanges. Major gainers were Coal India 3.67 pct,Gail India 2.18 pct,Bharti Airtel 1.60 pct,ONGC 1.54 pct and NTPC 1.48 pct. Most Asian stocks were trading firm in the early trade. Key benchmark indices in China,Hong Kong,S Korea,Japan and Singapore rose 0.15 to 0.62 per cent.
