The Supreme Court on Friday took strong exception to the central and state governments’ failure to file their affidavits clarifying their stands on framing a palliative care policy and cautioned them that their health secretaries would be summoned if they fail to file their replies within four weeks.

A Bench of justices B S Chauhan and Swatanter Kumar granted the last opportunity to the governments to file their responses on a petition by Indian Association of Palliative Care (IAPC),which had moved the court in 2007,demanding “improved access to palliative care for those who need it in the country”.
