Police said Divaharan was arrested during a search of vehicles in Tiruchy a little past midnight. He was produced before the Needamangalam Judicial Magistrate, who remanded him in police custody till February 16.
Divaharan is wanted for allegedly instigating some people, including officials,to demolish the house of a local DMK leader,Balasubramanian,in Tiruvarur. The police had begun a search for Divaharan following a complaint by Kasturi, the wife of the DMK leader. Divaharans wife Hemalatha, who was questioned by the police on Wednesday, has claimed the demolished house was built on land belonging to Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowment Department, and that Divaharan had no role in its demolition.
Divaharan is the second member of Sasikalas family to land in jail. M R P Ravanan, the son-in-law of her brother, was arrested in January in two cases of abduction and cheating and fraud.
Meanwhile, the Karnataka High Court Friday dismissed Sasikalas plea seeking that Tamil translations of questions framed by the court be kept ready during trial in a disproportionate assets case against J Jayalalithaa. Sasikala is also an accused in the case.
