Like a true politician, film star and SP candidate for Lucknow Lok Sabha seat Sanjay Dutt kickstarted his poll campaign by seeking to revive his Lucknow (read Muslim) connection on Wednesday.

Accompanied by wife Manyata and SP leaders,‘Munnabhai’ visited the Jopling Road residence of Captain Sikander Abbas Rizvi, with whom his father Sunil Dutt had lived from 1949 to 1953 — the period he worked as an anchor with the All India Radio. Here, the couple was welcomed as “beta and bahu” by Raees Jahan Rizvi Bano and Sarkar Jahan Rizvi Bano, the two sisters of Captain Rizvi. The actor leafed through an album of photographs of his father with the Rizvi family. “My uncle Syed Muzaffar Hasan, who was in the Punjab Army at that time, brought Sunil Dutt sahab here.” She recalled how her grandmother would say that some day Sunil’s son too would come to Lucknow,” Raees Jahan said .

Dutt said he was happy to meet the family and said Lucknow was his second home. He also reminded his mother was a Muslim.
