After an impressive outing in the Hockey Olympic qualifier, ace drag-flicker Sandeep Singh is all set to showcase his acting skills on the silver screen. Sandeep, apparently has done a guest appearance in a Punjabi movie,Aaj De Ranjhe, directed by cinematographer Manmohan Singh.

Sandeep, who scored 16 goals in the recently-concluded Olympic qualifiers, including five goals in the final match, which helped India book a berth in the upcoming London Games, said he enjoyed working in a movie.

“The main lead in the film,Gurpreet Guggi,is my friend and I could not turn down his request,” said Sandeep. “I really enjoyed the experience (of working in films). I have a small role where I am playing Sandeep Singh,” he added.

When asked,if he has any Bollywood aspirations,Sandeep said,“Hockey is my first love and I devote most of my time to hockey only. If I get the time,I don’t mind working in films too.”

Director criticise Regional Jury

Debutant Malayalam film director Siddique Chennamangalur voiced doubts over the ‘mystery’ behind exclusion of his film Oomakkul Padumbol for the National Awards and alleged that the regional jury had not selected it for the competition.

Speaking to reporters in Kozhikode,Siddique alleged that the regional jury, who select films for competing for the National Award, had excluded his film. “What was the yardstick adopted by the regional jury for ignoring my film?” he questioned, demanding a clarification.

The film is even now running successfully for the fourth week at seven centres in North Malabar,he said, adding that he would submit complaints to the National Jury and the State Cultural Department for not considering the film for competition.

“I did not make this film with the aim of an award,” he said. Siddique also demanded that the jury clarifies the number of people in the regional jury panel, the number of film entries and the number of films that were excluded.
