The Vigilance department has recovered Rs 55.70 lakh stashed in a mattress,in a raid conducted at the house of a state Irrigation department engineer Ravindra Prasad,here on Wednesday. Prasad is posted at Chamoli. According to the officials,jewellery worth lakhs of rupees and papers of properties worth almost a crore were seized from the house. The officials say the accused had been sleeping on the mattress stuffed with cash that had been neatly rolled in newspapers. It is alleged that Prasad had been running commercial ventures in the name of his wife Bacchi Devi who also owns a petrol pump at Kitcha area of Udham Singh Nagar.
