Even as the CPM reiterated that the party has no role in the brutal murder of rebel leader T P Chandrasekharan, the police on Tuesday arrested a CPM local leader and three other criminals on charges of abetting the crime. Another local level CPM leader is in police custody.
The arrested CPM leader,Parayankandi Raveendran,is a member of the party local committee under Onchiyam area in Kozhikode. It was Raveendran who allegedly helped the supari gang to identify Chandrasekharan, secretary of Revolutionary Marxist Party. The other three, all history-sheeters,were arrested on charges of concealing the weapons, which were later recovered. However, none of the arrested were in the gang which killed the politician, police sources said.
Chandrasekharan was hacked to death on May 4 while returning home on a two-wheeler. The police had identified a supari gang led by Kodi Sunil behind the murder. The gang has been absconding.
