The CBI on Saturday questioned SP MLC Akshay Pratap Singh alias Gopalji in connection with alleged threats to slain pradhan Nanhe Lal Yadav’s brother Pawan and also on his presence at Balipur after the murders of Nanhe Lal,his brother Suresh and Deputy SP Zia-ul- Haque. The murders took place on March 2.

Akshay is a relative of former UP minister Raghuraj Pratap Singh alias Raja Bhaiyya, who is an accused in the DSP’s murder case. Sources said the MLC was questioned for two hours and allowed to go in the evening with an instruction to appear before the CBI whenever summoned.

The pradhan’s brother Pawan had complained to the CBI on Friday that Raja Bhaiyya and his aides, including independent MLA Vinod Saroj, had threatened his family. However,he did not mention Akshay Pratap’s name in the complaint.

Pawan told The Sunday Express that he had told the CBI that on the night of March 2,the MLC had reached the mortuary where the bodies of Nanhe Lal and Suresh were brought for post-mortem. After the bodies were handed over to the family,Akshay Pratap reportedly forced him and his brothers Phoolchand and Sudhir to take the bodies straight for cremation.
