Congress leader Rahul Gandhi Wednesday tore a paper and threw it from the dais to drive home the point that SP chief Mulayam Singh’s “promises on a list of paper” will do no good to the state.

Addressing his first rally in Lucknow,Rahul said “Mulayam comes with a list of assurances to you and says he will give you water, electricity, employment… unemployment allowances”.

The state does not run with a list (of promises),it runs with your blood and sweat,he said after tearing the paper. “If you want to listen to promises and speeches, then go to the rallies of leaders of the BSP,SP and the BJP. But come with us if you want to change UP,” he said.

Rahul said the Congress was not contesting the polls for the sake of but for the future of people, particularly the youth. He also took on CM Mayawati, saying if she never visited people’s homes and villages in the last five years, how would she know about their problems.

Taking a swipe at the BJP,he said: “… (L K Advani) led a yatra against corruption but did not see corruption in inducting (Babu Singh) Kushwaha and hugging other tainted BSP ministers.”
