Punjab cop fires shots at wedding,kills one

A policeman,apparently drunk,allegedly opened fire from his service revolver during a wedding in Bhikhiwind.

A policeman,apparently drunk,allegedly opened fire from his service revolver on Wednesday during a wedding in Bhikhiwind,killing the anchor of an orchestra that was performing.

ASI Kulwinder Singh,posted at Tarn Taran police lines,is absconding,said Bhikhiwind DSP Gurcharan Singh. “Kulwinder is absconding after firing the shots. A case under Section 304 of IPC (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) has been registered against him. We are conducting raids ,” he said.

The man killed was Balbir Kumar Beera,33. According to eyewitnesses,Kulwinder fired thrice. “He fired two shots in the air and the third one at Beera,who was anchoring the music,” said Gurinderjit Singh,a member of the orchestra.

Contacted on phone,Kulwinder denied firing any shots.
