The Punjab Congress on Tuesday said it would soon approach the Election Commission with a request to station Central forces during the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Addressing mediapersons here, former chief minister and Punjab Congress campaign committee chief Capt Amarinder Singh said free and fair elections were not possible in the state under the prevailing circumstances when the ruling Shiromani Akali Dal-BJP Government in the state has allegedly let loose a reign of terror on Congress workers.

Amarinder accused the state Government of lodging false cases against its workers and killing them to trigger a fear psychosis ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.

“We are going to request the EC to declare the state a disturbed state due to the atrocities of the Government. Over 1,100 FIRs,involving 5,000 Congress workers, have been lodged in the state in the past two years. Around 100 of our workers have been killed. This state terrorism is being orchestrated by Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal,” he said.
