The Madurai Kamaraj University has decided to constitut a panel to probe charges of irregularities in selection of 89 teaching staff in 2010.

The Senate, which met yesterday said an inquiry was necessary since MKU’s credibility, reputation and teaching quality are at stake due to corruption.

Syndicate member P Gunasekaran, who chaired the meet in the absence of the Vice-Chancellor,agreed to members’ demand to form a senate committee for enquiry.

The issue was raised through an adjournment motion moved by I Ismail who claimed to have proof that UGC norms were not followed in faculty appointments. Those rejected by committee/scrutiny committee got appointed while eligible candidates lost chances. New posts were created without government permission,he alleged.

Ismail and others alleged heads of departments were forced to sign appointment orders at the behest of some individuals.

Dr Krishnaswamy said not all the new faculty members were missing in qualification but there was proof that money was demanded from applicants.
