In another ceasefire violation,Pakistani troops fired rockets and mortars at over half a dozen forward Indian posts along the LoC in Krishna Ghati sector in J&K’s Poonch district early Thursday morning.

Indian posts first came under small arms fire around 1 am,but soon rockets and mortars began pounding them. No one was reported hurt on either side of the LoC. “It is a major ceasefire violation and it has been a matter of concern for us,” said defence spokesman Lt Colonel Biplab Nath. “We have lodged a protest and we are also asking the Pakistanis for a flag meeting to discuss the issue.”

The firing was aimed at facilitating a militants to infiltrate into the state,Col Nath said. “However… in view of appropriate response to the fire, the militants could not carry out the infiltration plan,” he said.

Sources said this was the third ceasefire violation in Poonch this year. Pakistan has also violated ceasefire along the international border in Jammu and Kathua districts several times.
