Nobel Laureaute R K Pachauri,Director General of The Energy and Resources Institute,will now head the newly established Yale Climate and Energy Institute,at Yale University.
Announcing that Pachauri would be heading the ambitious YCEI,Yale University president Richard Levin told the International Scientific Congress on Climate Change in Copenhagen on Tuesday that Yale was fortunate to attract one of the worlds foremost climate change experts to lead the ambitious new institute.
Speaking at the Congress,Pachauri said: Climate change has now become an important part of government policy worldwide and the Yale Climate and Energy Institute has enormous potential to fill the need for objective analysis of mitigation options, Pachauri said. As an institution with a global focus and international reach,Yale can also pursue research on impact of climate change in different parts of the world and develop suitable adaptation measures,particularly in the most vulnerable regions.
Dr Pachauri also chairs the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).
