Nearly 300 farmers from Ambala and Kurukshtera staged a protest against erratic power supply in their villages outside the head office of Uttar Haryana Bijli Vittaran Nigam Limited (UHBVN) on Thursday.

While the protest was largely peaceful, tempers ran high when the police asked protestors to not block the road outside the office in Sector 6.

The protestors reached the premises around 11 am and sat outside the office till 4 pm. They raised slogans against UHBVNL for not providing adequate power to villages.

“From 12 midnight till five in the morning, there is a power cut. We do not get power for four consecutive hours and it is supplied only in bits and pieces. The department should look into the problems as farmers are facing a lot of inconvenience because of this,” aid Gurnam Singh Dhadhuni, president,Bhartiya Kisan Union,Haryana Wing.

The police had set up barricades around the premises to avoid any untoward incident by the protestors.
