Orissa rape victim’s kin want body back

The body was taken by local police first to the girl’s native village in Arjunagoda in Pipili,but there were none to received the body.

The father of the 19-year-old Pipili rape victim,who died on Thursday after more than six months in coma,on Friday lodged a case against a local police station demanding that his daughter’s body be returned to him.

The girl’s father Babuli Behera lodged a complaint at the Mancheswar police station,alleging that the police forcibly took away his daughter’s body to Pipili Thursday night against his wishes. Behera said his family wanted to take the body to Ghatika for a last ‘darshan’ by their community. “The police took the ambulance carrying the body without informing us,” he said. “I now want my daughter’s body back.”

The body was taken by local police first to the girl’s native village in Arjunagoda in Pipili,but there were none to received the body. Afterwards,the body was taken by the Puri district administration to Puri town and kept in a hospital morgue.

HC stays govt action on Ishrat SIT cop

The Gujarat High Court on Friday stayed action against IPS officer Satish Verma in connection with search and seizure that he carried out at Ahmedabad FSL while probing the Ishrat Jahan encounter case last year.

A Division Bench comprising Justices Jayant Patel and Abhilasha Kumari passed the order on a petition by Verma and also issued a notice to the state government.

According to case details,Verma,as part of HC-appointed Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe Jahan’s encounter,had seized a hard disk from the Ahmedabad FSL on March 3,2011.

Verma has maintained the hard disk contained some photos related to the encounter concealed by the FSL till then.
