BJD MP Brahmananda Panda launched a scathing attack on Union Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav in Lok Sabha on Wednesday for ignoring Orissa and said youths from the state were being compelled to follow in footsteps of Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray to check domination of people from one particular state in railway jobs. Other MPs from Orissa echoed his views.

“The gross injustice done to Orissa in the interim and previous budgets is shocking. Despite several memorandums to the Prime Minister and the Railway Minister about genuine demands, our state has been grossly ignored. National parity should be maintained or it will endanger national integration,” Panda said.

Charges of neglect by the Railways in pursuing projects and giving jobs to locals were also leveled by BJP MP from Arunachal Pradesh,Rinchin Kharu. Earlier, starting the discussion,BJP MP Shahnawaz Hussain alleged that in its bid to earn profits the Railways has been raising freight and passenger fares by expanding the Tatkal scheme and upgrading passenger trains to super-fast without increasing the speed.
