Trying to woo Orissa,Gujarat Chief Minister and BJP’s election campaign committee chief Narendra Modi on Tuesday invoked the blessings of Lord Jagannath here while extolling the contribution of Orissa towards the economic development of Gujarat.

“I respect the contribution of Oriyas who shed sweat for the development of Gujarat. I thank people of Orissa for their warm welcome. I cherish the strong bond between Gujarat and Orissa and discussed about it with friends here,” Modi said in Oriya after visiting the Jagannath Temple in Puri.

“There are many similarities between Orissa and Gujarat. While you are located on the coast,Gujarat, too,is a coastal state. You have a Sun temple at Konark where the first rays of Sun touch India, while Gujarat gets the last ray during sunset,” he said, chanting ‘Jai Jagannath’ and ‘Bande Utkal Janani’. “Thanks to the skilled manpower and traditional aesthetic sense of Orissa’s artisans, Surat’s textile is the best in the world. I thank all my Oriya brothers for having contributed to the progress of Gujarat,” he said.

Modi did not say anything against the BJD or the Congress. He said that he has come to Orissa to seek the blessings of Lord Jagannath.
