The death toll in the coal dump crash at a Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) site in Odisha’s Sundargarh district reached 14 on Sunday night as four more bodies were recovered and the rescue operation resumed,a MCL spokesman said. “On Sunday morning toll was 10. It rose to 14 in the night and,since the operation is still underway,it may increase further,” he said.The five people who were rescued from the site with injuries are undergoing treatment.

CM Naveen Patnaik has ordered the Revenue Divisional Commissioner to investigate. The MCL has announced Rs 3 lakh ex-gratia and the state has offered Rs 2 lakh to the kin of those killed. Although entry to the dump yard is illegal,residents of the area often scour for coal there.
