OP Bhatt on panel to probe Tata Steel executive’s death

Tata Steel has inducted OP Bhatt,former chairman,State Bank of India and an independent director in the company,as a member in the committee set up to look into the facts around the alleged suicide by Charudatta Deshpande,the company’s corporate communications head. The four-member committee is chaired by Ishaat Hussain,non-executive director,Tata Steel.

“Further to our communication dated 2nd July,on the appointment of the committee to ascertain the facts relating to the allegations surrounding the demise of Charudatta Deshpande,the Board of Tata Steel has expanded the committee with the induction of OP Bhatt,independent director of the company,” said the company in an email response to The Indian Express. Calls and messages sent to Bhatt remained unanswered.

Charudatta Deshpande allegedly committed suicide on June 28. The Tata Group had,on July 2,formed a committee comprising Hussain, and three other members from the Tata Group to ascertain the facts and give its report to the board of Tata Steel within the next two months.
