A weekly in Oman has been suspended over a sympathetic article on homosexuality that it published last week, the BBC reported. Homosexuality is illegal in Oman.

Muscat-based The Week had devoted the entire home page on its website to an apology for the article, titled ‘The Outsiders’,with the tagline,‘Oman’s discreet gay community is finding new ways to live life the way they want to’. The article appeared on August 29.

Within hours of publication,“article was denounced across online social networks in Oman”,the BBC reported.

“A member of the influential Shura Council,Tawfiq al Lawati, tweeted that the article was advocating homosexuality and that it suggested Oman was a safe haven for gays,” the report added.
