The Trinamool Congress has alleged that the CID has been dragging its feet over an investigation into “a conspiracy” against Railways minister Mamata Banerjee. Obscene pictures of Trinamool Congress chief and the chief minister are being spread through Internet from an influential lobby close to political parties. According to the police, the messages and pictures are being forwarded from some vague address.

The conspiracy, according to party leader Partho Chatterjee, has been hatched by a group of miscreants to malign Banerjee’s image. Chatterjee said since early June, they have been receiving complaints from party supporters about the issue. The leaders took up the matter with the Union home department, which asked the state government to initiate a CID inquiry. “But for past one month, they have been sitting on the home department order,” alleged Chatterjee. The party has also complained to the administration about the matter, asking that the culprits be booked. Chatterjee said he had met Police Commissioner Goutam Mohan Chakraborti again and had demanded an immediate inquiry.

“We are giving the police 48 hours,” said Chatterjee. “If they fail to book the culprits, our party supporters will take the charge and will catch them and hand them over to police.”
