Terrorism and internal security, two pet themes of the ruling BJP,will now become part of students vocabulary in Madhya Pradesh.
The state government has launched the Janmabhoomi Raksha Abhiyan,a campaign against terror which seeks to inculcate students with nationalistic feelings, and arm them with practical knowledge to do their bit should there be a terror attack in their vicinity.
The students will be taught to keep an eye on suspicious persons; carry important telephone numbers so that they can inform authorities; provide primary medical care to the injured and shift them to nearest hospitals during emergencies.
This training will be given to them from the next academic year. The education department launched the campaign in the presence of hundreds of students in Bhopal on Saturday. Torches lit on the occasion will be taken to different districts.
Elaborating on the campaign,Education Minister Archana Chitnis said ex-servicemen and experts will train the students.
Students will be assigned projects during the academic year and their performance assessed to bring seriousness to the campaign. The campaign will make students familiar with their duties, fundamental rights, national symbols and martyrs.
Imparting military education to students to help them do their bit in the times of terror attacks and creating awareness against terrorism were among the promises the ruling party had made in its manifesto.
