Noel Naval Tata has taken over as non-executive vice-chairman of Trent, the retail arm of the Tata Group, with effect from Thursday. This comes after his resignation as managing director of the company on August 12.
Noel will also be an additional director of the company. The role of the 53-year-old,seen widely as a possible successor to Tata Group chairman Ratan Tata, had got bigger with his appointment as the MD of Tata International,a leather and engineering trading company with presence in ten African nations,a region where the group wants to double revenues to $1 bn in two years.
As a trend, most chief executives of Tata Group companies, after stepping down from their posts, have taken up non-executive positions.
