No Tata name for non-core businesses

Tata Group’s retail venture Trent,nurtured by Noel Tata — whose name has been doing the rounds as potential successor to Ratan Tata — has been denied the use of Tata brand in line with the conglomerate’s branding philosophy,says a new book.

“There was a whole series of new companies where we denied those companies the use of the Tata name,” Ratan Tata has said in the book Tata: The Evolution of a Corporate Brand. Not just Trent,

Tatas latest acquisition of British premium auto brands Jaguar and Land Rover too do not carry the Tata name. According to the book,a company which was perceived as a risky venture or fell outside the core business of the Tata Group was not allowed to use the Tata name. PTI
