The Delhi Police on Thursday gave a clean chit to members of Team Anna in a complaint filed against them for “insulting the Indian flag” during their protests held at the Ramlila Maidan in August.

“No disrespect to the dignity and hounour of the flag has been shown or committed by the said persons. There may be instance of inadvertent and unintentional disrespect towards the displaying of the flag by the persons but certainly, deliberate and intentional disrespect towards the national flag by the alleged persons is not established from the content of the complaint,” the police told a city court here in its status report on the investigation.

The report by the Kamala Market police station house officer, who had been ordered by the court to examine the complaint, said: “From the content of the complaint,it is clear that the national flag was not being used for any commercial purpose nor was there any gross affront or indignity to the flag by the alleged persons.”

The police filed its report in reply to a complaint made by advocate Ravinder Kumar accusing Anna Hazare and his team of insulting the Tricolour during their protest in August. The complaint sought registration of an FIR against Anna,Kiran Bedi,Arvind Kejriwal,Manish Sisodia and six others. Kumar had also annexed his complaint with pictures showing Kiran Bedi,a key member of Team Anna, waving a torn flag and other protesters allegedly demeaning the Tricolour by mishandling it and painting it on their bodies.

The matter will come up for further hearing on January 19.
