The much-publicised love affair between former Haryana deputy chief minister Chander Mohan (alias Chand Mohammad) and Anuradha Bali (alias Fiza Mohammad) has turned sour faster than it took them to change their religion and cast aside their pre-grand-romance lives. After Chand professed his love for his first wife to the media,he disappeared from public view, leaving behind a scorned and very incensed Fiza. The most recent development in this real-life soap opera is that Fiza has charged her husband of two months with rape, criminal intimidation, defamation and hurting religious sentiments. Although the Mohali police have summoned the couple to appear on February 20,Chand remains untraceable. When asked about Chands whereabouts,Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda snapped, I dont know where he is. I dont interfere in the private lives of people.
CM steals the show on budget day, while FM pouts
When Haryana Finance Minister Birender Singh stood up to give his budget speech, the sarcasm in his voice was unmistakable when he said,The budget has already been presented. His chagrin was understandable considering that barely an hour before the commencement of the budget,Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda in the Vidhan Sabha had announced a subsidy package of Rs 700 crore, which spanned across various segments including benefits for pensioners, underprivileged children and panchayati raj members. Later talking to newspersons,a sulking finance minister said,He (Hooda) is the badshah of the state. He can do anything.
Have fame and fortune? Then get cheaper land
The state Government has revived a controversial scheme for preferential allotment of residential plots,in which distinguished people are given incentives, such as lower prices,to purchase land. The scheme was discontinued after a previous Congress government headed by Bhajan Lal provoked a lot of controversy after making allotments to its favourites. Eventually, these allotments were scrapped by the court. Whether the government would be unbiased this time or not remains to be seen, but those who perceive themselves as close to the Chief Minister are already picking out new furniture and drapes in anticipation.
Aint no effort big enough for this mythological river
The Haryana Government is leaving no stone unturned to revive, what according to local legend is presumed to be a creek of the mythological Saraswati river. An elaborate project, this involves an expenditure of over Rs 10 crore and acquisition of 17.92 acres of land. Apart from winning the goodwill of the states majority Hindu population, the Hooda government has also got a thumbs up from historians who over the years have been trying to trace the origins of this mysterious river.
